Excellence in Refrigeration Finalist

Heatcraft Australia is proud to be nominated as an AIRAH Award finalist in the category of Excellence in Refrigeration for the Optus Stadium project. Heatcraft shares the nomination with Goff’s Refrigeration and Air Conditioning.

The world-class Optus Stadium in Perth WA features the latest innovation in design, construction and technology and has made its mark as one of Australia's top sporting and entertainment venues.

The project team demonstrated excellence in refrigeration delivering an entirely customised solution designed to achieve TEWI reductions of 48% and energy savings of 3% compared to conventional refrigeration system design.

The project encompassed the design, engineering and installation of leading refrigeration technologies to service the stadium's extensive cold chain requirements. Equipment specifications evolved throughout the project adding complexity, requiring Heatcraft Australia and Goff's Refrigeration to adapt and accommodate. They overcame project challenges with a whole of business approach – harnessing the full strength of the Heatcraft technical and sales support team.

Winners will be announced at AIRAH Awards gala dinner in Melbourne on November 15.

Tony Gleeson, M.AIRAH sees the awards program as a catalyst for the HVAC&R industry to reach ever greater heights of excellence amongst a period of tremendous transformation.

“The AIRAH Awards offer a chance to acknowledge and to celebrate the industry’s progress and performance. All of the finalists have achieved a standard of excellence that deserves recognition.”

The Heatcraft Transcritical journey continues

Extract from Accelerate Australia & NZ / Winter 2018

Woolworths has commissioned its second transcritical CO2 system at a new store in Wadalba, New South Wales. The retailer sourced the Kirby eCOBoost system from Heatcraft, which met the technical brief.

The recently supplied transcritical rack from Heatcraft was not only an opportunity to deliver a fully integrated system, but to also reduce commissioning time by working together with WRI.

"We were able to use our in-house engineering and design capability to evolve the Kirby ‘Ready Connect’ switchboard to meet the specific requirements of the Woolworths E-Spec," says Heatcraft Segment Engineer Douglas Herkess.

"Heatcraft invited the Woolworths commissioning team to the Milperra facility during dry-testing and pre-commissioning to observe and complete the testing with the Heatcraft team. This was an important step for the commissioning team to have a complete understanding of the system being delivered prior to its arrival on site," Herkess says.

The Milperra visit provided the opportunity to fine-tune the system and problem-solve in a factory environment, which ultimately reduced the on-site commissioning time. “We’re very pleased with the end result,” Herkess says.
